A British woman drowned and another was missing today after a yacht with six people aboard capsized off eastern Australia, officials said.

Authorities found the woman's body early Monday and treated four other members of the British crew who had washed ashore clinging to debris after the boat capsized overnight.

A police spokesman said the tourists were sailing south from Surfers Paradise in Queensland state to Coffs Harbor, when the boat overturned at Evans Head. It was not clear why the yacht had capsized.

The missing woman was believed to have been trapped in the hull of the vessel when it overturned, said a police spokesman, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The four surviving crew members, three men and one woman, were taken to Ballina hospital and treated for minor cuts and dehydration, the spokesman said.
