Indian TV presenter dies after being hit by falling palm tree in India

An Indian TV presenter has been killed by a falling palm tree.

Kanchan Nath, a former anchor on India’s public broadcaster, was returning from a yoga class when she was struck moments after getting off a bus in the city of Mumbai.

CCTV footage captured the moment that the 58-year-old was hit.

Several bystanders came to her aid but the mother-of-two died of her injuries after being rushed to hospital, according to The Times of India.

Ms Nath was due to host the Rangmanch Ke Sitare music awards later in the month and the organisers paid tribute to the “great artist”.

“We lost a very dear colleague, a mother-like figure, a very dear friend, a great artist and above all a very positive and loving human being,” their statement read.

“Just two days ago we were together for the whole day preparing for our annual get together of Rangmanch Ke Sitare… and on July 22 2017 we lost or very dear member Kanchan Nath Ji.”

Ms Nath becomes the third person to die this year due to tree collapses in Mumbai.

The monsoon season tends to bring extreme storms to the area and falling trees have proven to be a significant hazard to pedestrians.
