The intelligence chief was wounded in an assassination attempt in Kabul today.

Asadullah Khalid suffered injuries on the lower part of his body when a bomb exploded at his guest house as he was receiving a visitor, an official said.

The house is used for private meetings that Mr Khalid doesn’t want to hold at the official compound of the National Directorate of Intelligence.

Mr Khalid was appointed head of the agency in September.

He has survived two assassination attempts: in Kandahar in October 2011 when he was Minister of Border and Tribal Affairs, and when he was Governor of Kandahar in 2008.

There has been no claim of responsibility for the latest attack.
