A 25-year-old college student says he was beaten by New York police after walking his dog without a leash.

Nocholson Gregoire said he was walking outside his Queens Village house on December 15 to walk his 15-month-old dog when he was stopped-and-frisked by two New York Police Department officers.

Mr Gregoire told the New York Daily News that he was asked for identification and he attempted to go into his home with the officers’ permission. Moments later several officers allegedly pushed past his grandfather to arrest the student.

“The police are alleging that my client answered the door and dragged them inside, to justify coming into the house… They had no basis to enter the premises,” said Mr Gregoire’s attorney Mark Crawford told the Daily News.

During the video, Mr Gregoire appears to struggle with officers as he waves his identification card. He eventually appears to place one of the officers in a chokehold before dozens of cops rush to the scene to arrest him. One officer can be seen punching and slamming the student's head into a wall, creating a large hole.

Mr Gregoire was taken into custody and charged with resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer.

The student's family posted his $2,500 bail and he plans to file a notice of claim against the city on Monday.
