Treasure threat
TREASURES of the only Elizabethan warship ever found will remain on the seabed unless a benefactor can be found to help a Channel Islands archaeological project which has run out of money.
The Makeshift, part of the fleet that defeated the Armada, was wrecked in 1592, half a mile off Alderney. A team of archaeologists has recovered several artefacts, but pounds 20,000 is needed to cover next year's operating expenses and twice that amount to pay for the conservation of objects it hopes to recover.
