Homeless people in Brighton are to be given temporary accommodation in converted shipping containers.

The 36 units, linked by a walkway, will be placed on land currently being used as a scrap yard by Brighton Housing Trust who will allocate them to men and women with a connection to the Sussex resort.

Councillor Christopher Hawtree, chairman of Brighton planning committee which has granted permission for five years, said: “I hope this scheme will highlight what is being done to assist those who for one reason or another have been down on their luck and found themselves on the streets.”
