Detectives investigating the death of a young woman who fell from a multi-storey car park discovered the bodies of her three children when they went to her home, it emerged last night.

Fiona Anderson was found with severe head injuries in Gordon Road, Lowestoft, Suffolk, just after 8am yesterday. Police inquiries led them to her house nearby where the bodies of the children – aged three, two and 11 months – were found.

Police declined to say how the children died but said that their deaths were “suspicious”. They added there was no threat to the “wider community” after discovering the bodies. Post-mortem examinations by a Home Office pathologist were taking place last night at the James Paget Hospital at Gorleston and were due to continue today.

An ambulance crew was called to treat the woman, who was in her 20s, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. There has been no formal identification but police are confident that the woman is the mother of the dead children.

Detective Superintendent John Brocklebank said: “It is too early to be able to come up with a definitive explanation and we will be keeping an open mind.”

Cuddly toys were left outside the property yesterday where the family lived. The area around a four-floor corner house was sealed off as police inquiries continued.
