A policeman has been dismissed after he was found to have filmed himself performing sex acts while on duty.

PC Christopher Leach, 37, was subject to a disciplinary hearing in Cardiff where five allegations of misconduct were found proven against him, including sending explicit videos of himself taken at his police station.

On Tuesday, South Wales Police said in a statement the police officer had been dismissed without notice after a panel found his actions amounted to gross misconduct.

Two allegations of breaching professional standards included filming himself engaging in “lewd behaviour” while on duty at Cathays police station in Cardiff towards a woman he met through his job as an officer.

A third allegation of sending an inappropriate video was also found, as well as one of misleading his supervisor and one of misleading the professional standards panel.

The misconduct hearing at County Hall in the Welsh capital found the proven allegations amounted to gross misconduct on Tuesday.

Following the decision, Superintendent Mark Lenihan, from South Wales Police’s professional standards department, said there was no place in the force for people who undermined the public’s trust.

He said: “Pc Leach’s behaviour fell well below these standards and this case has demonstrated that we take complaints and information relating to individual conduct extremely seriously and will always ensure they are thoroughly investigated and appropriate action is taken.

“There is no place for anyone in the service who cannot secure the confidence of their colleagues or undermines the public’s trust in policing.”

South Wales Police will make a referral to the College of Policing to prevent PC Leach from becoming a policeman again by adding his name to the Barring List.
