Pensioner trampled by cattle

A 70-year-old man was in hospital today after being trampled by cattle.

Roger Jones, who is reportedly a farmer, was rescued by air ambulance after the incident near Eye in Suffolk on Tuesday.

He was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital, where he is said to be in a stable condition.

The East of England Ambulance Service confirmed it attended the incident at Thorndon Hill Farm at around 2.45pm after a report that a man in his 70s had been trampled by cattle in a field.

A land ambulance was sent to the scene, but medics opted to transfer Mr Jones to hospital in an air ambulance.

This is the latest in a spate of incidents involving cattle.

In July, Anita Hinchey, 63, was trampled by a herd of cows while she and a friend were walking her dog in a field on the outskirts of Cardiff. She suffered multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A month earlier, in June, 49-year-old vet Liz Crowsley was trampled to death by a herd of cattle while walking the Pennine Way with her dogs.

A fortnight before that, former home secretary David Blunkett was left with a black eye and a cracked rib after being charged by a cow during a walking holiday with his guide dog in the Peak District.
