Eight are being treated in hospital after the Newcastle to Stranraer two cariage Sprinter came off the rails.
Police say the accident happened at 5.45pm at Airhemming Farm near Glenluce, Stranraer.
The driver, conductor and 24 passengers were initially taken to a farmhouse as ambulances and fire crews rushed to the scene.
A police spokesman said injuries were minor.
