A shop worker may lose his sight after being shot in the face with a pellet gun during a robbery in Brixton.

The 44-year-old man has been treated for injuries but requires surgery to remove pellets from his eyes.

The Metropolitan Police has released CCTV footage of the robbery which took place at the Phambra Foodstore on Lyham Road at around 8.35pm on Sunday 25 October.

Two men can be seen entering the corner shop, one holding what is believed to be a high-powered pellet gun. He fires the pellet gun at the face of the shop worker while the second man leans over the counter and steals the cash register.

The victim was taken to hospital where he was treated for several facial injuries. Some pellets have remained lodged in his eyes, and he now requires surgery in order to keep his sight.

Detective Constable Ben Turner has said: “This was a vicious attack that could have left a man blinded.”

“We desperately want to find the men responsible for this crime. They used gratuitous violence to carry out this robbery and are clearly dangerous. I would ask anyone with information to come forward and help us catch these dangerous, violent men."
