An arrest has been made after a car mowed down three people during a huge fight on Brighton‘s seafront.

A 32-year-old man has been arrested after three people were taken to hospital following an altercation yesterday.

Officers were called to Marine Parade shortly after 5.20am after a report of a large group of people fighting with weapons.

The area is between Palace Pier and Rock Gardens, and is a tourist hotspot.

While police were responding to the incident, some of the group are thought to have got into a vehicle which then hit three men who were involved in the fight.

The arrest was made on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, and the three wounded men were taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, two with serious head injuries.

The 32-year-old remains in custody. The vehicle was later found abandoned.

Sussex Police have said the incident was not terror-related and are appealing for anyone with information to contact detectives.

Detective Inspector Chris Thompson said: “This is a fast-moving investigation and we are appealing for anyone who may have seen the incident or has any information about it to come forward.

“Marine Parade is currently closed between the pier roundabout and Camelford Street while we carry out enquiries and I would like to thank the public for their patience.”
