PETER WADE, 41, the Briton serving a year's prison sentence in the Arab emirate of Sharjah for adultery, was released on bail yesterday, writes Stephen Ward.

He walked free from Sharjah central prison and was taken to a local police station where he was met by Yvonne Campbell, 37, the woman he was convicted of sharing a house with while she was married to another man.

The two were granted bail on Thursday pending an appeal against their conviction, when Mrs Campbell was released immediately. Mr Wade's release had been delayed by a public holiday on Saturday.

Their lawyer, Hafez Tahboub, said that the court had yet to choose a date for their appeal. Both have surrendered their passports while they wait for the appeal.

Witnesses said the couple left the police station through a back door. Mrs Campbell had taken her four children, the youngest less than two months old, to prison, because she said she feared her husband Kenneth, 31, would try to snatch them.
