Royal Engagements
The Duke of Edinburgh visits the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (Umist); opens PPG Industries (UK) Ltd Fibre Glass Division's new plant at Hindley Green, Wigan; visits St Helens, Merseyside; visits Ravenshead Renaissance Ltd's Greenbank Land Reclamation Project; and opens Pilkington Glass Ltd's new Float Glass Factory. The Princess of Wales opens Wolverhampton Police Station at Bilston Street, Wolverhampton; as President, Barnado's, joins voluntary helpers at tea to celebrate 100 years of volunteer support at the Birmingham Metropole Hotel, West Midlands; and opens the Wooden Spoon Pre-School Centre, Lode Lane, Solihull. The Duke of York, Patron, visits the Simon Weston Spirit Centre, Shand House, Fitzalan Place, Cardiff; and as Colonel-in-Chief the Staffordshire Regiment (The Prince of Wales's) takes the salute at a massed bands display given by Bands of The Prince of Wales's Division in Cardiff Castle.
Changing of the Guard
The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment mounts The Queen's Life Guard at Horse Guards, 11am; 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards mounts The Queen's Guard, at Buckingham Palace, 11.30am, band provided by the Welsh Guards.
