Police in South Carolina have released dash cam footage of their pursuit of Jake Broadbent, the actor who played Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.

"Don't try this at home" is a familiar phrase uttered before films showing ludicrous stunts and death-defying races. Yet Broadbent - who's character in the film wins a high-speed race on a Podracer - the allure of his past fame was evidently too alluring as he reached speeds of 120 mph in an attempt to flee police officers.

26-year-old Broadbent was caught and arrested for reckless driving and resisting arrest. Police described the event as "'an insane car chase that ended when [he] plowed into some trees."

Broadbent went by the name Jake Lloyd when he appeared in George Lucas' 1999 film. A jail official told reporters that his bond was set at $16,700.

Police first began to pursue Broadbent when started driving through towns at 70mph, before reaching 120mph as police tried to get him to stop.

The arrest report read: "The driver continued driving into the woods striking several trees causing extensive damage and finally stopped. The driver exited the vehicle on foot but after a brief struggle with law enforcement, he was apprehended approximately 20 feet from his vehicle."
