'Dangerous' Ivanka Trump scarves recalled over fire concerns

Authorities have issued a massive recall for Ivanka Trump-branded scarves that they say pose a burn risk.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced that 20,000 of the women’s scarves are being recalled after the item failed to meet the US Federal Flammability Standard. The China-manufactured scarves are made of 100 per cent rayon, an extremely flammable fabric.

“The scarves do not meet the federal flammability standards for clothing textiles, posing a burn risk,” the CPSC announcement reads.

A spokesperson for the CPSC told the New York Times that the scarves are a “dangerous product.”

The CPSC says the recall only applies to two styles of the brand’s scarves: “Beach Wave, in blue, coral, and yellow; and Brushstroke Oblong, in blue, red, neutral, and green.”

No injuries have been reported, so far.

“We’re disappointed to learn of the need for Global Brands Group, our license partner, to recall two styles of Ivanka Trump scarves,” a spokesperson for the Ivanka Trump Collection, Tricia Whalen, told the Times, “but we are relieved that immediate action is being taken.”

Ms Whalen said the company is looking to fix the issue immediately.

The CPSC advises consumers to return the scarves, which are available online, to such retail stores as Century 21, Lord & Taylor, Marshalls, TJ Maxx, and Stein Mart.

Donald Trump, who is a very vocal about his opposition to outsourcing manufacturing work to China, has a line of suits and ties manufactured in that country.
