Chris Moyles wouldn't fit, says radio boss

One of Britain's biggest commercial radio bosses today appeared to rule out hiring Chris Moyles if he leaves Radio 1 - as he would not fit his station's "strategy".

Ashley Tabor, who runs commercial giant Global Radio, also denied holding talks with breakfast show host Moyles.

Speaking at the Radio Festival in Salford today, Tabor - a former flatmate of Moyles - said: "I want to put that one to bed."

Radio 2's Chris Evans last week said Moyles should leave the BBC and move to the commercial sector following suggestions he may move to Global-owned Capital, which is to go national.

Interest in Moyles - who has a one-year contract with Radio 1 - has intensified after an extraordinary on-air rant in which he complained that he had not been paid.

The station's controller Andy Parfitt said later he had discussed the outburst with Moyles but he was not reprimanded as he was satisfied he had not gone too far with his comments.

MediaGuardian reported today that Tabor said: "We haven't had any conversations with Chris about joining us.

"If you look at what we did with Heart - Emma Bunton and Jason Donovan, they are people who have not done radio before and we are bringing them into the sector. That is more our strategy at Global."
