The first Charlie Hebdo since the “survivors’ issue”, published after jihadist gunmen killed 12 at the satirical monthly’s offices in January, went on sale on Wednesday morning.

Newspaper sellers are expecting a scrum as readers across France hope to get their hands on one of the 2.5 million copies to be released over the next few days. The magazine’s new editor, Gérard Biard, said he hoped the brand would shed the symbolic status of its previous issue and that its bolstered readership was “heavy to carry”.

Its front page reads “Here we go again!” signalling a return to its rambunctious editorial line.
