Guilty Pleasures: Alex Zane, MTV Presenter

I'm not embarrassed that I buy it, because hopefully most people do not know what it is. I don't think the people in the newsagent have ever opened it up, so they don't see the pictures of old men playing with lead dwarves. But it's always a stealth purchase, I buy it along with NME so people think I must be cool.

The photographs of the painted figures are beautiful - my fantasy porn. The standard of painting is unattainable to me. When I get back home after a night out me and my White Dwarf settle down.

Only my old school friends know about this secret pleasure. Like Keyser Söze from The Usual Suspects, people rarely see it and it's not something talked about. After a good half hour skimming the pages, I go out partying, drinking beers, talking about anything other than role-playing games. If people see it in my room I try to change the subject by telling them a bear is about to attack.

I've been interested in these miniatures for over a decade, since I was about 12. I do not do battle with fantasy elves and dwarves, but in a futuristic world called the Warhammer Forty Thousand Universe, with aliens and space elves. I used to go to the Games Workshop in Leeds and sit and chat about armies and compare characters. I had quite an army and won a fair few battles. I haven't played in a long while, but I do like to keep up to date with the armies.
