Football: QPR rescued by Peacock

Queen's Park Rangers overcame the distraction of their managerial vacancy and the sending-off of full-back Matt Brazier to earn a point from their Nationwide League First Division game at home to Norwich City last night. The match finished 1-1 thanks to a superb equaliser from Gavin Peacock.

Brazier was dismissed in the 33rd minute. After narrowly failing to get his head to Simon Barker's cross on the half hour, the defender was so sure he had been held back that he chased after the referee, Paul Rejer, earning a booking for dissent. Three minutes later, Brazier floored Adrian Forbes, who had just replaced Daryl Sutch, and Rejer again produced the yellow card, followed by the red.

Rangers were punished for a momentary loss of concentration when Forbes scored six minutes into the second half. Robert Fleck played the winger clear of a hesitant home defence to drive the ball low and wide of Tony Roberts in the QPR goal.

Rangers equalised in fine style after 71 minutes. Trevor Sinclair sent over a precise cross from the right and Peacock stooped to head wide of Andy Marshall, the Canaries' goalkeeper.

In the Second Division, Millwall's promotion push suffered a setback when Walsall left the New Den with a 1-0 win. The Saddlers' young defender Dean Keates scored the only goal 12 minutes from full time.

Notts County climbed to third place in the Third Division after Sean Farrell's early goal had earned a 1-0 win away to Brighton at Gillingham.
