You may not think investment is the trendiest subject in the world, but in fact it has its "ins" and "outs" in the same way as anything else. Investors and financial advisers are swayed by recent performance, advertising and media coverage. Last year Jupiter was the "in" investment house and it is holding on to the title for the moment.

Figures from a leading PEP dealer, PEPDIRECT, show how the transfer market has looked in the first six months of this year. Transfers are a good indicator of fashion because they are made by investors moving their money from a manager they aren't satisfied with, to one they hope will perform better.

IN - transfers going in

1. Jupiter 38.2 per cent

2. Johnson Fry 9.1 per cent

3. Invesco 8.9 per cent

4. Gartmore 8.3 per cent

5. Perpetual 6.8 per cent
