Tesco chief defends pounds 1m package

Tesco chairman Sir Ian MacLaurin was forced to defend his pounds 1m pay package at the company's annual meeting yesterday when the board came under fire over the issue of executive pay and share options. Sir Ian said the company would note forthcoming recommendations of the Greenbury committee but added: "I believe if you perform well, you should be rewarded."
