COMPUTER scientists in Germany have developed a system for replacing a decayed tooth in one visit to the dentist. It takes a 3D 'optical impression' of a tooth and uses it to produce an instant ceramic inlay, thus avoiding the intermediate stage of a temporary crown. Siemens, the electronics company, is developing a commercial machine for use in dentists' surgeries.
