STOCK PRICES ended higher yesterday: the Dow Jones industrial average rose 59.99 points on the day to close at 8,975 as investor fears about the US and world economies eased. Blue chips benefited from Thursday's strong advance after comments from US Federal Reserve chairman, Alan Greenspan. The Dow was up 383.36 points, 4.4 per cent, on the week.

The Nasdaq composite was up 19.46 to 1,856.56 on the day: the tech-laden index was up 4.8 per cent on the week.
