Women's March 2019: See the most beautiful bread and roses costumes from annual rally

This year's theme commemorates American suffragette Rose Schneider

This year’s London Women’s March was dubbed the “Bread and Roses Rally” in honour of the Polish-born American suffragette, Rose Schneiderman.

Schneiderman famously coined the phrase in 1911 by saying, “The worker must have bread, but she must have roses, too.”

Organisers chose the theme in the hope that it would remind people of the protests that revolutionised workers’ rights for women in the early 20th century and galvanise marchers to rally against austerity in the United Kingdom.

Participants were encouraged to dress according to the theme for Saturday’s march, which started at noon in the city centre.

Now in its third year, the Women’s March has become one of the most important rallies for social change, with events taking place around the world and attracting thousands of people.

It began as a protest in response to the inauguration of President Trump, but has since evolved and now addresses a number of key issues affecting women.
