SHOPPING WITH... BEVERLEY CABLE

There is no doubt that Beverley Cable is well placed for some serious shopping. Owning a PR agency, representing many top designers and high street shops, Cable considers herself, "very lucky, but it doesn't stop me wanting to go shopping, unfortunately!"

Most of her shoes are by Prada (0171-235 0008), "from the London shop", but she likes Jane Brown's shoes, too, from Tokio on London's Brompton Road (0171-823 7310). Clothes? "I love what Liza Bruce does, (0171-235 8423), not just her swimwear, but she does some fantastic trousers and shirts, simple in design, flattering and comfortable."

Cable's jewellery comes from Jess James (3 Newburgh Street, London, W1, 0171-437 0199). She wears his Prayer ring, and from Chaumet on Sloane Street (0171-245 0045) she wears its "really simple" Anneau rings, one in white gold, and one in yellow. For her make-up, Cable prefers Liberty's cosmetic department on Regent Street (0171-734 1234), because "they're really friendly. I buy Nars, Bumble and Bumble, Aveda, Baby Kiehl's... everything from there." Does she use Baby Kiehl's products? "No, I buy them for babies as presents!"

Recently, Cable bought Clements Ribeiro's new baby "a worn-out looking polar-bear toy called Tomato Joe from the great kid's shop, Humla (0171- 224 1773) in St Christopher's Place, London. I love buying presents, I would rather give the right thing late than buy something on time for the sake of it. One shop I think you can find presents for any age and sex is Colette in Paris (213 Rue Saint Honore, tel: 00 331 55353390). I bought a miniature walkman set for my boyfriend for when he's in the gym."

Most of Cable's possessions are boxed away whilst she waits to move into her new house which is presently being "gutted". Although this means her beloved art books, bought at The Library in London (0171-589 6569) are in storage, it does mean that Cable is very tuned into furniture shopping. "There's a fantastic furniture shop in Clapham called Places and Spaces (30 Old Town, London, SW4, 0171-498 0998) and another brilliant shop called Haus (23-25 Mortimer Street, London, W1, 0171-255 2557)." Other furnishings in Cable's new home have been designed by Toby Flannagan (0171-732 7767) "a wonderful architect who was recommended to me". Bedding will be bought from The White Company (0171-385 7988), kitchen utensils from Divertimenti, (0171-935 0689) and "it's not terribly novel, but I like the Joseph menswear shop on Sloane Avenue (0171-591 0808) for odd artefacts and bits and pieces, especially anything with a slightly Japanese feel to it."

Cable, surprisingly, is a self-confessed Sainsbury's addict. "Doing a weekly shop seems so removed from the rest of my life, so I love going up and down the aisles buying far more than I need. There's something about going around with a trolley." If she's not supermarket shopping, Cable recommends Speck (2 Portland Road, London, W11, 0171-229 7005) "a great little Italian deli selling fantastic home-made pasta and sauces," and "Lidgate's (110 Holland Park Avenue, London, W11, 0171-727 8243) is fantastic for meats, game and foul." For wine, Cable always goes to Handford Holland Park (12 Portland Road, London, W11, 0171-221 9614). "It's a really tiny, independent wine shop and they have the best selection of wines."
