The Duke of Sussex is expected to be a first-time father any day now, but in the meantime, the 34-year-old is fulfilling his royal duties by attending the London Marathon and touting the benefits of “mental fitness”.

On Sunday, Prince Harry cheered from the sidelines as more than 40,000 people ran the 26.2 mile course through the streets of the British capital.

Following the race, the team behind The Duke and Duchess of Sussex' Instagram account, @SussexRoyal, posted a series of snaps from the day, one of which shows Harry posing with winners Eliud Kipchoge and Brigid Kosgei, alongside an inspiring note about how sport can facilitate good mental health.

“The Duke has been Patron of the [London Marathon Charitable] Trust since 2012 because he believes that mental fitness is absolutely crucial to our wellbeing,” the caption begins.

“These runners not only set a goal for themselves personally and emotionally, but the majority of runners choose to raise money for charity. It’s the perfect fusion of doing something good for yourself while doing good for others.”

The caption goes on to praise the “joyful atmosphere” that surrounds the London Marathon each year, thanks to locals, tourists and families and friends of runners.

Money raised from this year’s race has surpassed £1bn, making it the biggest one-day fundraising event around the world.

“So for every runner, volunteer, sponsor and member of the public that has played a part in making today a success – thanks a billion!” the caption concludes.

The post from the Sussex Royal account, which boasts 5.3 million followers and was launched earlier this month, has already been liked more than 280,000 times and garnered thousands of comments from people thanking Prince Harry for his continued advocacy of mental wellbeing.

“Great job Harry,” wrote one person. “Still so active and passionate in everything he does! Can’t wait to see him holding his little baby in a few days”.

Another added: “This is a wonderful and meaningful event. Mental health is extremely important component of overall wellness and I am delighted that HRH is highlighting it. Thank you!! Also praying for safe delivery and well and happy mamma and baby. We adore you both.”
