New features coming to Goodwood Festival of Speed

This year's Goodwood Festival of Speed has now borrowed two things from London - the idea of a motor show in the first place, and an enormous Ferris wheel.

The annual show, held in the spectacular grounds of the Goodwood Estate, will this year feature the 'Honda Eye', a 40-meter high, 24-pod Ferris wheel so that guests can get a view of the park from an altogether different angle.

The Honda Eye may have little on the 135-meter London Eye, but it's just another quirky addition to an event which is rapidly filling the place of the cancelled British International Motor Show among motoring enthusiasts.

Famed for its hill-climb, a 1.86 kilometer run with nine turns, the event has grown considerably to include supercar races, a Concours d'Elegance, an action sport show and the 'moving motor show'.

This last attraction has drawn considerable interest from the world's automakers, with Jaguar, Porsche, BMW and Mercedes-Benz all confirmed to be displaying new vehicles, many for the first time in Britain.

Among the highlights will be the first UK display of the BMW M5, Ferrari FF, Citroen DS4 and Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari, while Honda is also set to unveil its new CR-Z MUGEN hybrid prototype vehicle, a world debut.

Of course, no motor show today would be complete without a section dedicated to the future of motoring, so the FoS-TECH dome will be returning to highlight some of the cool technology which drivers can enjoy today and in the future.

For fans of all things with two wheels, Goodwood will be feting the first 100 years of the Mountain Course on the Isle Of Man TT, with a host of TT riders in attendance.

With 175,000 visitors expected this year, Goodwood doesn't yet boast the size of its erstwhile rival in London, and nor can it compete with the enormous shows in Geneva and Detroit, for instance - although as its features continue to expand year on year, the Festival of Speed is well on the way to becoming a serious international contender.
