The estate version of Skoda's impressive Superb is now on sale in the UK. Prices start at £17,715, which represents only a small premium over the existing hatchback/saloon model, as well as being highly competitive with mainstream rivals such as the Ford Mondeo and Vauxhall Insignia, and with the estate models of the German prestige brands.

A wide range of engines is offered, from a 1.4 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol unit to a 3.6 litre VR6 that is only available in conjunction four-wheel drive. Three different diesels are available; the Volkswagen Group's long established 1.9 litre in 105 horsepower form, and two more modern two-litre units using common-rail technology, one providing 140 horsepower and the other 170.

Meanwhile, Skoda has also announced a modest facelift for its smaller Fabia and Roomster models designed to bring them further into line with the company's emerging corporate "face", and is hinting at further developments to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show this week.
