McLaren celebrates Can-Am's 50th anniversary with limited edition 650S Spider
Fittingly just 50 of the £225,850 vehicles will be made to mark the iconic racing series' half-century
The iconic Can-Am racing series has been going for half a century, and to celebrate, McLaren have created a limited edition version of the 650S Spider. McLaren Special Operations (MSO) have replaced or added some rather luscious materials, including carbon (both –fibre and ceramic), leather and stainless steel.
Carbon now forms the bonnet and retractable hard-top, as well the air brake, splitter at the front and bumper at the back, door blades and the sill covering. Carbon ceramic discs with black callipers go on, fitted to lightweight alloys also finished in black.
You can have the car in black as well as red and the orange that the original Can-Am racers were finished in. Four stainless steel exhaust pipes create a nice contrast. The engine at the other end of them is the standard 641bhp motor.
The cabin is swathed in more leather and Alcantara for the sports seats, and you even get a commemorative plaque on the driver’s door. As befits the 50th anniversary, just 50 examples will be made, with a price tag of £225,850.
