It’s not unusual to see Instagram posts and tweets sponsored by brands nowadays, and this is something most social media users accept.

However, many people are questioning whether this trend has gone too far following the revelation that Khloé Kardashian’s baby shower was sponsored by Amazon.

The reality TV star, who is expecting her first child, a girl, with basketball player Tristan Thompson, shared various pictures of the lavish party on Instagram.

Featuring floor-to-ceiling pink flower walls, numerous pink balloons, a pink neon “Baby Thompson” wall light (in her own handwriting), hundreds of pink flowers dangling from the ceiling and lifesize elephant sculptures made out of plants, it was certainly an elaborate do.

But what’s most set tongues wagging is the fact that the party was sponsored by Amazon.

“Had the most unbelievable baby shower - we felt so much love! #ad” Kardashian, 33, wrote. “So grateful to be surrounded by a beautiful support system.

“And special thank you to @Amazon for helping me bring it all together! More pictures to come! 💗 #AllOnAmazon #AmazonBabyRegistry.”

Whilst many followers congratulated Kardashian on her pregnancy and beautiful party, others asked why she had felt the need to have what is usually an intimate event for friends and family sponsored by a global company.

“Why do u still need to do an ad for Amazon ? U have a ridiculous amount of money as it is,” one follower commented.

“‘All from Amazon’ how tf did they ship two plant elephants on prime lol,” another added.

“LMAO DAYUM Amazon sponsored ahahaha,” said one amused follower.

“Getting Amazon to pay for your baby shower? That’s a money move,” suggested another.

Some criticised Kardashian for “making money off her unborn baby” and others expressed their disapproval at using a baby shower for “product placement.”

Khloé was joined at the elaborate affair by the whole Kardashian clan, including half sister Kylie Jenner who was recently accused of being paid by Snapchat to share the first pictures of her newborn Stormi on the photo-sharing app.

The previous month, Jenner had criticised Snapchat’s latest update so eyebrows were raised when she chose to reveal Stormi on the platform.

However Snapchat has since denied paying Jenner to post the pictures.
