Heinz has created a 570-piece jigsaw puzzle that is, confusingly, completely red from corner to corner.

While in lockdown, many people across the globe have had to become accustomed to finding amusement within the confines of their homes.

For some, this has meant taking up a new hobby, such as creating art or doing puzzles, to keep their minds occupied.

In April, it was reported that sales of board games and jigsaws had “soared” during the coronavirus lockdown, with John Lewis stating that demand for jigsaws in the last week of March superseded that of the Christmas period.

Jumping on the bandwagon, Heinz has unveiled its own jigsaw, 57 of which are being given away to “ketchup lovers” in 17 countries around the world.

The catch? Every piece of the jigsaw is an “identical Heinz red”, inspired by the classic Heinz tomato ketchup.

“Heinz is known for its iconic slow-pouring ketchup. In a period when everyone has a little more time on their hands and puzzle popularity has skyrocketed, we wanted to help pass the time by connecting the two,” said David Chalbert, senior brand manager for Heinz Tomato Ketchup.

“We’re always looking to deliver fun, contextually relevant ways to give Heinz Tomato Ketchup lovers a smile, a this ridiculously slow, all-red Heinz Tomato Ketchup puzzle felt like the perfect fit.”

After sharing news of the jigsaw on social media, several Instagram users commented on the prospect of undertaking the task of completing the bewildering puzzle.

“Been doing a lot of puzzles lately to pass the time in quarantine. This would be the ultimate challenge!” one person wrote.

“We would go crazy trying to do this puzzle but imagine,” another commented, tagging several friends.

Heinz is not the first company to have created a jigsaw puzzle that is seemingly impossible to complete.

On Amazon, you can purchase a 1000-piece puzzle that consists solely of white or black tiles.

Heinz is sending the 57 puzzles to individuals in countries including Canada, the US, the UK, Ireland, Sweden, Australia, Brazil, Argentina, Romania and Korea.
