For yogis stuck in an endless winter, a four-day retreat to sunny Miami Beach might prove just the thing. US-based Wanderlust, one of the biggest yoga parties on the planet, has expanded this year to include an event in Miami Beach, Florida, March 17-20.
Wanderlust, with three US events in 2011, aims to provide stiff competition to the plethora of music festivals for yogi-loving crowds. The Miami Beach event, while smaller in scale than Wanderlust's signature California event, offers classes, workshops, talks, and music concerts at the Standard Spa and Resort.
New York-based teachers Virayoga's Elena Brower, Kula Yoga's Schulyer Grant, and The Shala's Barbara Verrochi and Kristin Leigh, along with a handful of South Florida's yogic talent, will lead classes, while British DJ and producer Bonobo headlines the musical offerings. Also expect poolside satsang, meditation, and plenty of time for lounging in the Adult Playground, the Standard's pool area with mud baths and more, and the large indoor hammam.
The third annual main festival , held at the peaks of Squaw Valley in California's Lake Tahoe, is all about yoga, music, and nature. This year it is expected to draw more than 5,000 yogi partiers, and famed yogis John Friend, Shiva Rea, and Seane Corne are headlining the yoga events, while musicians Michael Franti and Spearhead and Jai Uttal will play concerts.
Other similar yoga/party events include Ojai Yoga Crib, Bhakti Fest, and Evolve Music and Yoga Festival, but Wanderlust reportedly attracts the largest, most hedonistic crowds. Wanderlust's Vermont event takes place June 23-26 in Bondville. In California, Wanderlust will take place in Squaw Valley, Lake Tahoe, July 28-31.
Tickets for all four days in Miami Beach are priced $475 (€340). A four-day pass plus lodging ranges from $1,530-$3,180 (€1,094-€2,273). A one-day pass for Friday or Saturday costs $145 (€104).
Tickets for the Squaw Valley event are also on sale now: a full four-day pass, called "Sage," costs $450 (€356), and a three-day pass (or "Seeker") costs $375 (€268).
