Remix Moby, solve puzzle and donate to charity
Among all the Guitar Hero and Rock Band video games, there's a new music game released this month, called Chime that is ringing bells. Just released this month, it is already selling about a copy a minute on Xbox Live. By building blocks and filling a grid, players can remix Moby's "Ooh Yeah."
This puzzle game from OneBigGame, the first non-profit video game publisher, allows gamers to download the game with approximately 60 percent of the cost benefiting one of the company's charity partners Save the Children and Starlight Children's Foundation. It's the first release for this charity project with 15 more in development.
It's the brainchild of video game developer Martin de Ronde, who was inspired by a documentary about ‘Live Aid,' the music industry's 1980s initiative for African hunger relief. With robust charitable efforts in the other areas of the entertainment business, de Ronde's vision is to bring the games industry on board.
Ciaran Walsh, audio director for the UK video game developer Zoe Mode, developed the idea in which players remix songs by playing a puzzle.
The object is to arrange blocks into rectangles on a grid, triggering various sounds, high and low pitches, to create quads. As skill improves, more or the song is revealed until the puzzle and music are complete.
Artists including Philip Glass, Paul Hartnoll of Orbital and Fred Deakin of Lemon Jelly have donated their music tracks.
Chime is available on Xbox LIVE Arcade for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft.
