Mad Friday: Warning over excessive alcohol consumption

Revellers are being warned to drink responsibly on "Mad Friday", typically one of the busiest days of the year for pubs and clubs in the UK.

The London Ambulance Service has said it is preparing to attend over 700 alcohol related incidents this year.

Last year, the Service attended 32 alcohol related incidents in one hour.

Paul Woodrow, Director of Operations, said: "We can be called to people who have fallen in the road or on railway tracks or been involved in fights – often because they’ve had too much to drink.

"And our crews can spend much of the night caring for people who are vomiting, violent or unconscious."

Last year, the North West Ambulance Service saw a 20 per cent increase in life-threatening calls on Mad Friday, compared to the previous year, ITV reports.

South Yorkshire Police issued a few "lighthearted tips" from their officers.

The Force offers the following tips: "No. You can not wee in our helmets. Whether you are pregnant or otherwise."

They add: "If you point to your mate and say 'He's here. Here's here. Arrest him', again, we probably won't.

"And if we look unamused, it's becuase I guarantee, you won't have been the first person to have said it."
