TOO much nutmeg can cause hallucinations, thought disorder, excessive thirst and speech difficulties, psychiatrists warn in the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine. They say two teaspoons of the spice is enough to induce a 'mind- altering experience', documenting the case of a 25-year-old patient who was psychotic for several days after bingeing on nutmeg.
