Game of Thrones season 8: Fans notice continuity error with Daenerys Targaryen’s hair

'They do all sorts of continuity checks but this they missed?'

Eagle-eyed Game of Thrones viewers noticed a mishap with actor Emilia Clarke's wig during the first episode of the show's eighth season.

In the episode titled "Winterfell", which aired on Monday, Clarke's character Daenerys Targaryen makes her eagerly-anticipated arrival at the ancestral home of the noble House Stark.

The Mother of Dragons makes an elegant entrance, riding in on horseback alongside her ally and romantic interest Jon Snow, played by Kit Harington.

While many fans of the hit HBO show were transfixed by the episode's opening sequence, others were quick to notice a continuity error with Clarke's platinum blonde wig.

In a matter of seconds, the plaited half-up style, goes from featuring a swirl of two plaits to becoming an enormous multi-plaited bun on the back of Daenerys' head.

A Game of Thrones Twitter fan account, who goes by the handle @a_red_priestess, spotted the mistake and shared freeze-frames from the scene on the social media platform.

The discovery quickly gained traction, with the tweet garnering more than 1,700 likes.

"I just watched like a mad woman on my phone to explain to you how you're wrong, but you're not! You're entirely right! Whhhyyy?!?! [sic]," one Twitter user responded.

"How could no one notice that?! It's literally a second later. I thought perhaps on and off the horse they spruced her up? Nope."

"Surely SOMEONE on the production should have noticed this?" another person remarked.

"They do all sorts of continuity checks but this they missed?"

Daenerys' braids are supposed to symbolise the number of victories she has had in battles throughout the show, a tradition that she picks up from the Dothraki people.

Clarke has previously spoken about the damage caused to her hair by dying her natural brunette locks blonde.

In September 2018, the Emmy Award-nominated actor explained to Harper's Bazaar that she had cut her hair short because it was "dying".

"I'm honestly trying to grow out the blonde, because it's just killed my hair, and I miss having nice hair!" the 32-year-old said.​

"I do like the length but I wish my hair was longer. I do bloody love long hair, but then I'm always dreaming of cutting it all off and having a pixie cut - but I don't know that my face could take it."

Clarke recently made headlines when she revealed that she had suffered two brain aneurysms while filming Game of Thrones.

In an essay penned for The New Yorker, the actor explained that the first aneurysm occurred shortly after filming for the first season of the show had finished.

Earlier this month, Clarke shared previously unseen photographs from her time spent in hospital during an interview with CBS Sunday Morning.

The Me Before You star said that when she started experiencing head pain on account of the first aneurysm, she instantly knew that she was "being brain damaged".

Following the publication of her essay, Clarke launched a charity called SameYou.

The aim of the charity is to provide support for young adults who have suffered from brain injury and stroke.
