'The S10 is like having a supercomputer in your pocket,' the iPhone rival says

Samsung has announced a range of new state-of-the-art smartphones, 10 years after its first ever flagship Galaxy S-series smartphone.

The Galaxy S10 comes in three variants - the Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ - and features a number of new features, including an ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint sensor and ground-breaking camera.

The S10 includes a triple rear camera system, which includes an ulta-wide and telephoto lens to take pictures ranging from landscapes to "incredible" close-ups.

"With this camera, what you see is what you get," said Suzanne De Silva, director of product marketing at Samsung.

Samsung partnered with Instagram to allow Galaxy S10 users to upload images to the photo-sharing app directly from the camera.

The phone can hold up to 1.5 terabytes of storage, thanks to its market-leading 1TB of internal storage and additional external storage capabilities.

"The S10 is like having a supercomputer in your pocket," Ms De Silva said. "It's so powerful, it can even power other devices."

This is thanks to its reverse wireless charging technology that allows users to share their battery power by holding their phone close to another compatible device.

Compatible devices include the new Galaxy Buds headphones, which were announced alongside the Galaxy S10.

Samsung also announced the Galaxy Fold - a foldable smartphone that transforms into a tablet.

The South Korean electronics giant will hope that its new range of devices will not only help it compete against Apple's iPhone in the high-end smartphone market, but also reverse a stagnating smartphone market.

Pre-orders for the Galaxy S10 open on 20 February, with a release date of 8 March.

Prices are expected to range from £699 for the cheapest 128 GB S10e version, to £1,399 for the most expensive 1TB S10+ version.
