£15,000 Jony Ive-designed iPad Pro goes up for sale at design auction

Along with the iPad Pro and Smart Cover, the lot includes an Apple Pencil with its own calf leather holder

A one-of-a-kind iPad Pro created by Apple's British design guru Jony Ive is set to go up for auction.

The exclusive iPad is one of the lots in a 28 April sale at the exclusive Phillips auction house in central London, and was designed specially for the event by Ive, the chief design officer at Apple, and the rest of his world-famous team.

While it's a normal iPad Pro inside, the unique device features a one-off yellow anodised aluminium backplate, a flashy blue suede-lined leather Smart Cover, and even a small carrying case for the Apple Pencil made from orange Italian calf leather, according to Wallpaper.

As if it isn't flashy enough on its own, both the back of the iPad and the inside of the Smart Cover are laser-etched with 'Edition 1 of 1', so you can show it off to your friends.

You'll need deep pockets if you fancy getting your hands on it. According to Phillips' website, it's estimated to go for between £10,000 and £15,000 - although the actual price may end up being much higher.

However, it's all for a good cause. The auction has been organised to raise money for London's Design Museum, which is currently in the process of relocating from its home near Tower Bridge to Kensington, on the other side of the city.

If you can't make it to the auction on the 28th, don't worry - you can get the regular mass-production iPad Pro, along with the cover and pencil, for around £800.

The item's description doesn't specify which model it is, but if you're expected to spend £15,000 on it, you'd hope it'd be the 256GB version.

Also up for sale at the auction is an Anthony Gormley sculpture (expected to go for over £100,000), and a Marc Newson tea and coffee set, which is estimated to set the buyer back by more than £70,000.

For design fans on a budget, there's also a one-to-one styling session with Stella McCartney on offer, for only £3,000. Cocktails are included.
