Nando’s is offering customers free delivery on a temporary basis as further restaurants are opened.

In May, the restaurant chain announced it was opening 94 of its restaurants for delivery and collection as lockdown restrictions were eased.

In a further update released on Monday 8 June, the franchise said a further 61 restaurants have been opened across the nation, bringing the total number of reopened restaurants for delivery and click and collect up to 216 across the UK and Ireland.

Furthermore, for the next two weeks, when customers make an order on the Nando’s website, they will have free delivery.

All delivery orders made on the Nando’s website in the UK and Ireland will allow customers to gain points, or “chillies”, as part of the restaurant’s loyalty scheme.

Customers will be able to redeem their earned points when restaurants reopen fully, a measure that is currently expected to occur later this year.

Nando’s stressed that all food prepared in its kitchens is done so ”under strict UK and Irish government guidelines, to ensure restaurant teams, delivery drivers and customers are safe”.

The restaurant is also ensuring its strict social distancing practises are being observed when delivering orders.

“Drivers are being instructed to maintain social distancing when waiting to pick up orders, restaurant staff will hand over food whilst maintaining social distancing, and contactless delivery will be available upon request,” the company stated.

On Wednesday 3 June, Nando’s released a statement in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.

The restaurant chain opened its statement with a quote by Nelson Mandela, which read: “To deny people their human rights is to challenge their very humanity.”

The firm continued, stating: “As a South African business born during Apartheid South Africa, we are proud believers in the spirit of the Rainbow Nation.

“We want our Black Nandocas [Nando's worker], partners, creators and customers worldwide to know we stand by them and are looking at ways we can continue to support and raise awareness of this issue of racism through our work, both short and long term.”
