The Macallan 1824 Limited Release single malt scotch whiskey, carrying a recommended price tag of €1,450, will be sold globally at DFS-brand duty free shops in airports around the world beginning November 1.

The scotch whiskey is a limited edition of 1,824 bottles drawn from four of the company's rare European Sherry oak casks. The handcrafted crystal decanters have been decorated by a Scottish silversmith.

The authoritative guide, The Whisky Bible, gave the item a score of 97.5 percent, one of the highest ever given for any single malt whisky.

The 1824 Limited Release will only be available at DFS travel retail outlet stores and not aboard airplanes, as is common in the duty free industry.

Macallan is one of the premier luxury scotch producers, with single bottles having been auctioned for upwards of $54,000 as recently as 2007.

DFS (Duty Free Shoppers) is a Hong Kong-based chain of upscale department stores which is partly owned by French luxury conglomerate Louis Vuitton Möet Hennessy (LVMH).
