With Valentine’s just around the corner, a dreamy scent is just the thing you need to get yourself in the mood for an evening of romance.

And, whether you’re looking for the perfect gift or a covetable new fragrance to wear on the big night, there’s a slew of new launches to choose from.

But be warned, while fragrance is one of the most popular items to gift at this time of year it’s also one of the most perilous.

A scent, has to suit its wearer perfectly and is one of the most personal and special gifts someone can receive. Going on your first date? Then fragrance is a serious no-go.

Luckily though, for those of you who know which whiffs your better half prefer, the change in seasons has seen a steady drop of new colognes.

So what should you go for?

For women with a serious sweet tooth Marc Jacobs’s Daisy Kiss is guaranteed to satisfy. Who needs chocolates when you’ve got a heady mix of rose, violet petals, white peony and honey?

Alternatively, Miu Miu’s L’eau Bleue offers the same girlishness but with a slight zing. Think spring flowers like Lily of the Valley mixed with morning dew.

For men who prefer a fresher take on fragrance, opt for a stylishly classic aroma like Joop! WOW. A blend of traditional woody notes with a touch of citrus will leave you smelling super-fresh.

Similarly, Maison Margiela Replica At The Barbers will do the trick. With notes like basil and lavender at its core and a soft, leathery base this fragrance smells slick and clean.

It also offers up a seductive option for women too. Want something feminine, soft but not too over-the-top? Lipstick On is the perfect middleman.

The same can be said for Narciso Rodriguez’ latest iteration too. Fleur Musc will envelop you in a warm floral bouquet but it still manages to retain that same powdered musk that we’ve grown to love.

A celebration of love and libido, for many only a deep, seductive scent will do.

For the ladies, opting for something like YSL’s Black Opium Floral Shock or Giorgio Armani’s Se Le Parfum will dish out the perfect dose of drama. Both are grounded by a sensual musk with floriental notes that are perfectly enhanced by the essence of bergamot; good luck choosing between these two.

For men, we recommend Gucci Guilty Absolute. A new edition of the masculine fragrance, this version is the first curated by creative director Alessandro Michelle and mixes traditional dry, woody notes with vetiver, patchouli and soft, creamy leather.
