Giorgio Armani hits out at Vogue editor Anna Wintour after she snubbed his latest collection

Giorgio Armani has branded Anna Wintour “unprofessional” for ignoring his latest collection and flying to Paris to see other fashion designers instead of him.

Armani was so incensed at being “dumped” by the US Vogue editor that he used a post-show press conference to denounce her.

“There are some who prefer to snub the Giorgio Armani show and go to Paris… She took an airplane, dumped Mr Armani and went to Paris,” he raged. “It's not professional.”

The designer, who is valued by Forbes at $8.5 billion and is perhaps best known for his 1980s men’s "power suits", had been the star and only major turn on the final day of the Milan Fashion Show on Monday.

He had been assured that other senior Vogue executives were at the show to see his newest clothes but that, apparently, was not good enough for him.

“She said she was sending her people. But if you go to see your dentist and he puts you in the hands of his assistant, what’s your reaction?” he said, and added: “She is influential and powerful. But, perhaps, I’m influential as well.”

Armani also slammed the organisers of the Milan show for failing to put on more than one big crowd-puller for the last day.

A spokeswoman for Vogue said: “Anna has the greatest respect for Giorgio Armani and everything he has done for Italy and fashion worldwide. Unfortunately, with the fashion calendar now running for more than a month, there are some shows that Anna is not able to attend.”
