Cheryl Fernandez-Versini's style choices have always been on the contentious side - that mammoth rose tattoo for example, but never before has the X Factor judge drawn comparisons with a character from The Muppets.
The Saturday X Factor night live shows have traditionally always provided a forum for the panel's judges to show off their red carpet credentials in increasingly glam eveningwear.
This week however, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini who made her much publicised return to the singing competition this year, was subject to mocking by fellow judge Simon and subsequently the online community for her choice of attire.
Fernandez-Versini opted for a green floor-length gown complete with over-sized shoulder ruffle from the resort collection by Lanvin.
Far from being a panto-worthy costume, the dress actually retails somewhere around the £3,500 mark.
During the show Cowell repeated referred to Fernandez-Versini as Kermit, referring to the famous green puppet frog from The Muppets.
This sparked a flurry of tweets online with the hashtag #CherylKermit trending on Twitter during the show.
The joke was however, taken in jest by the singer who took to Instagram the next day to upload a image of the judging panel with Kermit superimposed over herself.
She captioned it: ".. And here i am on the panel last night this one is especially for those who have no opinion of their own until Simon tells them what they should think #sheep #kermit #xf"

The Kermit trend wasn't over just yet with fellow social media users taking to the site with their own mocked up versions of the judge:
