In an industry obsessed with body image, you’d be forgiven for thinking that most models survive on nothing more than kale and shots of apple cider vinegar.

But, one brand is out to challenge your misconceptions by featuring a diverse cast on its runway, including a few who unashamedly indulged in junk food.

No stranger to breaking boundaries, swimwear brand Chromat has long-championed diversity – it was one of the very first to include plus-size models – and this season the brand took things even further.

For its autumn/winter 2018 show, Chromat’s line-up included plus-size and transgender models, as well as an amputee, breast cancer survivor and a woman wearing a hijab.

However, it was the inclusion of an unconventional, edible accessory that really stole the show.

Walking in neon bathing suits, raver pants, dresses and more, models not only indulged in but celebrated junk food.

Here, many pieces housed energy drinks in meshed pockets and suspended packets of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos using bungee cord.

Others carried their packets of the spicy snack in-hand as though it were this season’s hottest clutch bag, even dipping in to eat them before they reached the end of the runway.

And, they weren’t the only ones that couldn’t get enough. One member of the audience reportedly proved so ravenous for a bag that they rushed out of their seat to swipe a packet that had been dropped on the catwalk.

Unsurprisingly, the bizarre accessory made waves with fans online too.

“When you have to walk NYFW but still need a snack,” one person wrote.

Another added, “I can get behind the Flamin’ Hot Cheetos at Chromat’s NYFW show. Yas girl, pass the munchies on the left hand side!”

Of course, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen junk food make it in high fashion.

While Alexander Wang famously served 7-Eleven slurpees and Hooters hot wings at his wild afterparties, designer Jeremy Scott showcased an entire collection for Moschino’s autumn/winter 2014 show inspired by McDonalds.
