Beyoncé wears bejewelled Alexander McQueen blazer mini dress at Lion King premiere

Beyoncé has surprised fans by wearing an Alexander McQueen beaded gown for The Lion King’s world premiere in Los Angeles, US.

On Tuesday evening, the singer walked the red carpet at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood with her eldest daughter Blue Ivy Carter.

The mother-of-three, who voices Nala in the Disney reboot of the 1994 film, was styled with a pair of earrings that joined up with an oversized jewelled necklace. The star also held an encrusted clutch for the occasion and wore her hair in tick braids.

The singer posted a series of photographs, which received more than 300,000 ‘likes’ in just 20 minutes of posting the images, of her look dazzling in the sunshine on Instagram.

Her look was reminiscent of a Balmain beaded cape dress in shades of black, silver, and gold the star wore to headline Coachella Festival in April.

Her seven-year-old daughter, meanwhile, emulated her look, wearing a similarly embellished black sheet skirt, a black blazer with embellished shoulder detailing, and her braided hair styled in two buns at the top of her head.

Fans of the singer took to Twitter to express their delight at the star’s latest sartorial triumph.

“Who is Beyonce's stylist? I wanna talk [sic],” commented one user.

“Beyoncé won’t let us breath!!!! [sic]” joked another.

Another referenced the singer’s lyrics from the 2018 song “Heard About Us” with her husband Jay-Z, writing: “Beyoncé wasn’t lying when she said “I come around stepping on necks” WHEW!”

The 37-year-old was later joined at the film’s premiere by her Destiny's Child bandmates, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams.

Beyoncé stars in the film alongside the likes of Donald Glover, Keegan-Michael Key, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Seth Rogen, and Billy Eichner and director Jon Favreau.

The singer’s red carpet appearance came hours before the Coachella headliner released a new song titled "Spirit", which appears in the film during a pivotal scene with her on-screen character.

The singer has described the film’s album, called The Lion King: The Gift, as "sonic cinema".

"This is a new experience of storytelling. I wanted to do more than find a collection of songs that were inspired by the film," she said.

She added: "It was important that the music was not only performed by the most interesting and talented artists but also produced by the best African producers. Authenticity and heart were important to me."

Earlier this week, a full cast photo was released, featuring Beyoncé with her co-stars.

Actor Seth Rogan shared the image on Twitter, commenting on the honour to have been photographed with the Grammy award winner.

"I’m thrilled to be a part of this cast and to be in a picture with Beyoncé. #TheLionKing is coming!" he wrote.

The Lion King is out in cinemas on 19 July.
