Christmas trees have been given a fashionable makeover this year with designer brands and hotels showcasing extra special decorations for the festive season.

Today the V&A unveiled their Christmas tree; the result of a collaboration with British designer Gareth Pugh. Unlike conventional trees, Pugh's creation is made of nine tiered gold pyramids built to replicate the shape of a tree.

Claridge's hotel has built a reputation for its exclusive trees, the result of a designer collaboration which in the past has included John Galliano and for the second time this year, Dolce & Gabbana.

This year's theme is an enchanted forest, hence the tree contains a number of animatronic animals as well as an impressive 9,000 fairy lights.

Even more unusual is the tree at Victoria Beckham's Dover Street store; the work of Iranian artist Shirazeh Houshiary who has installed an upside down tree featuring bright red roots.

In store at Christian Dior, the colourful bauble creations have been made for the Le Sapin des createurs operation where all trees are auctioned for charity on Monday 15th at drouotlive.com.

Finally, over at Hoi Polloi in the Ace Hotel, designer Ed Marler has created a tree entitled 'Our Lady of Shoreditch' which includes gold hamburgers, crystal stakes, broken paltes and marabou feathers.
