Football: FIFA to release 53,000 extra World Cup tickets

FIFA is to put more than 50,000 extra seats on sale for the World Cup, most of which are from unsold hospitality packages, football's governing body said on Saturday.

About 38,000 top-end tickets with prices ranging from 2-300 dollars will go on sale on Monday along with 15,000 seats with partially restricted views, FIFA said in a statement.

"The 'Premier Tickets' have been made available from unused hospitality packages," said the statement.

The tickets will be on sale only in shops in South Africa and not on the Internet. They do not include seats for the July 11 final, semi-finals, or the opening game between the hosts and Mexico in Johannesburg on Friday.

Sales within South Africa have been beset by technical problems and FIFA had to apologise last week after thousands of fans camped out overnight for a new batch of tickets only to be turned away when computer glitches halted the transactions.
