Why glossy lids are the slickest makeup trend of 2017

This season the tacky formula is no longer relegated to your lips

Spring/summer, a season typically associated with luminous, sunkissed skin is taking dewy make-up to the next level as an old-school and, quite literally, tacky formula stakes its place.

Enter, eye gloss.

While most of us probably haven’t reached for a slick of gloss since the early 00s when saccharine flavours offered up a high-shine pout, this season they’re no longer relegated to your lips.

Instead, greasy lids are serving up that fine line between perfectly polished, seductive and downright grungy.

On the runway, make-up artist Tom Pecheux opted for a new take on the classic smokey eye at both Balmain and Altuzarra.

At the former, Pecheux applied MAC Studio Eye Gloss over black liner for maximum smudge effect while at Altuzarra he built-in a little colour.

Here, a yellow-orange gloss was applied all over the lid and the lower lash to smudge a stroke of kohl for a greasy, worn in look.

Nina Ricci embraced super-shiny peepers too as make-up artist Diane Kendal creating glossy, diffused jewel tone looks in blue, lilac and orange on models eyes.

A trend that most of us admire but feel we could never wear in real life, mastering the line between slick and sweaty isn’t as complicated as it looks.

In fact, when it comes to this trend the more lived-in an glossy eye looks the more seductive and effortless it seems.

At Balmain, gloss was applied over black liner for maximum smudge effect

Wear alone by dabbing your gloss of choice onto the centre of your lids or take your cue from the runway and pair with a swipe of shimmery shadow or black liner.

It’s also important to remember that there’s no need to apply the product all over the lid as, because of its slippery consistency, it will natural spread out.
