As the name suggests straights, lesbians and gays are all welcome, creating an outrageous kaleidoscope of cosmopolitan clubbers. Located in the the Chinese quarter of Birmingham, this two-floored venue offers the perfect canvas for glamorous debauchery at a price that puts London entry taxes to shame.

The capacity is around 500 so you never feel lost in a sea of random clubbers. The atmosphere is overwhemingly friendly so pick the transvestite with the biggest wig and have a friendly chat.

High-energy dance-floor anthems and uplifting classics rule. If you looked up the word party in the dictionary it would probably give you directions to this gig. But if your wardrobe's finest offering hinges on jeans and trainers then you'd better look elsewhere.

THE SAINT BAR

There's no entry tax but even if you had a wad of tenners to flash at the doorman you'd still have problems getting in. On Friday and Saturday night it plays host to the bright and beautiful. The food in the restaurant is great (and pricey) but people come for the social vibe.

If you're not wearing your best frock don't even bother queueing. Even if you are spruced to the chin you'd better arrive before 9pm to have any hope of passing the ruthless fashion police on the door.

Rub shoulders with soap stars and models and shake your thing to rare groove classics. The perfect venue for stargazing.

LIBERTY

at The Colosseum

The Colosseum is still trying to find a clubbing formula that will match the Satellite Club in its heyday. Liberty is the latest offering and seems to point in the right direction.

This venue is large so promoters have to get it right, but when the house is full there are few better clubs.

The two main rooms offer both sides of the garage coin. In room number one we have the new people's champion, speed garage, while room two features the old "classic" US style. The bar area and the third smaller room will no doubt offer alternative vibes.

Smart casual dress is the order of the night and be prepared for a thorough frisking worthy of Her Majesty's customs inspectors. DJs include resident Martin Larner with Charlie Brown and guests on the mic.
